KHANCHENDZONGA BASE CAMP TREK

Day 01:  Bagdogra – Darjeeling.
 
Arrive in Bagdogra and meet our representative and drive towards Darjeeling. On arrival transfer into hotel. Evening sightseeing and acclamitisation. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel on a B&B basis.
 
 
Day 02: Darjeeling Sight Seeing.
 
early morning pick-up to be taken to see the sun rise from Tiger Hill, this is a scared moment when you will see the Mount Khangchendzonga light up with the new rays of the morning sun, after this we will take you to visit the famous Ghoom monastery, taken back to hotel for breakfast, after breakfast you will spend the day sightseeing, visiting the Gurkha memorial, darjelling Toy railway, Darjelling zoo,HMI, Tibetan Refugee Centre,Tea Garden and many many more sights, evening free to explore, overnight stay in hotel on a b&b basis.
 
 
Day 03: Darjeeling – Pelling. 04 hours drive
 
Afternoon,visit Pemayangtse Monastery and Rabdantse Ruins.
Overnight stay in Hotel with B&B basis.
 
 
Day 04: Pelling – Yuksom. 03 hours drive
 
In the morning time you will visit the famous Sangacholing monastery,it will take 20-30 minutes walk to reach monastery. You will also have opportunity to have wonderful view of Mt. Khanchendzonga range from the monastery.
After breakfast you will drive from Pelling to Yuksom via Khecheopalri Lake,it’s a wishing lake.
On the road you will also have opportunity to explore famous Khanchendzonga Water falls.
Overnight stay in Hotel with B&B basis.
 
 
Day 05: Yuksom to Bakhim,2700 m.
 
You will walk gently uphill, following the Rathong River’s gorge, through dense mixed jungle with magnolia, rhododendron, ferns and several varieties of orchids, brightly colored birds, and the occasional monkey. After an hour or so we cross the Paha Khola bridge, (1,733m. /5,685ft.). There is a swimming spot by a waterfall (for those who dare!) after two hours, and we can stop for lunch by a bridge over stream. Passing by sweet smelling viburnum we cross the Prek Chu River and then ascend steeply for two or three hours to arrive at the lodge at Bakhim. We will either stay in the Tourist Hostel, or sleep in our tents. This hostel is often occupied by Himalayan Mountain Institute students on rock-climbing courses. This is a long trekking day and you should expect to be pretty tired by the time you arrive at Bakkhim.

Day 06:Bakhim to Dzongri,4000 m.
 
after breakfast, we make our way through Tsokha village.  Todays trek is a tough one 4 to 5 hours hike. in the morning we will be heading towards Phedang passing through rhododendron forest, the main rhododendrons here are rh barbatum, rh falconeri and rh arboreum, there are also abies spectablis and many Daphne bhuloa, in spring the forests are carpetted with many primula species, the further you go up you will also start to see  rh thomsonii and sorbus and Acer species, once you have reached Phedang you will rest and have lunch, from here you can see beautiful views of Mt.Pandim, Mt.Thenchinkhang, Mt.Jhuponu.
 Phedang is surrounded by a large forest of rh thomsonii with its lovely bell-shaped red blooms, after lunch the first hour is a hard trek up, after that it is mostly downhill passing through endless forests of rhododendron fulgens with its brown peeling bark and red blooms.
 as you get further towardsDzongri(3950),Dzongri  has only single Trekkers hut and two forest huts. From the ridge above the site you can get  panaromic views of Mt.Khanchendzonga, Mt.Kabru and mt pandim. you will see many alpine plants like Juniperus recurva, rhododendrons anthopogon and setosum. . overnight stay in trekkers hut/tents.
 
 
Day 07: Dzongri Rest Day/Acclamatisation/Excursion to Laxmi Pokhari.
 
Early in the morning,you will be bring to Dzongri view point(4200 m) for a beautiful sunrise view with majestic view of Khanchendzong range,you will see Mt  Khanchendzonga(8586 m),North and South Kabru(7317 m),Mt. Rathong(6870 m),Mt. Kokthang(5860 m),Mt. Pandim,Mt.tenchingkhang,Mt. Jopuno,Mt. Narsing,Black Kabru.
After break fast you will take to explore around dzongri regions with opportunity to see wild yaks and birds and  Laxmi Pokhari lake.
Overnight stay in trekkers hut/tents.
 
Day 08: Dzongri to Bikhbari.
 
The trail first ascends gradually for about half an hour & then descends till we reach a crossroad. The trail on the left goes down to Zamlingang. We follow the trail to the right, which is a flat walk throughout.
Overnight Camping.
 
 
Day 09: Excursion to Doodh Pokhari/Chaurikhang/ Rathong Glacier.
 
(Khangchendzonga Base Camp)
It is a gradual ascent all the way to the base camp. This is the Khangchendzonga Base Camp, which is also the site where the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute of Darjeeling conducts its advanced mountaineering courses. You can get close views of Frey’s peak, Koktang, Kabur and Rathong from here. Return to Bikhbari.
 
 
Day 10: Bikhbari to Dzongri:
 
After breakfast you will head back to Dzongri via Dzongri-La Pass, at the beginning it will be ascent upto dzongrila,4500 m and after this you will walk all the way down towards Dzongri.
Overnight stay in trekkers hut/Camping.
 
Day 11:Dzongri  to Bakhim,2700 m.
 
After breakfast you will head back to Bakhim,it will be an easy walk towards Bakhim.
Overnight Camping.
 
 
Day 12: Bakhim to Yuksom,1780 m.
 
After breakfast you will head back to Yuksom,it will be an easy and steep down upto Prek chu bridge and little ascent and ups and down towards Yuksom.
